Top 12 Things to Do Near Lake Holden, Orlando

Orlando has been home for us for over a decade now, and we've spent our fair share of time exploring everything this city has to offer. Whether you're staying at our lakefront vacation rental just minutes away, or planning your first trip to the area, these are the places and experiences that genuinely make Orlando worth visiting. No hype, just places we actually go.

Theme Parks

Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World

We're not going to pretend you need our recommendation for this one. But if you're staying near Lake Holden and haven't spent a day here, it's still the most iconic experience in the area. The park is about 25 minutes from your rental, so you can head back to the lake house to rest between park days. Split your time between the newer Tron area and the Haunted Mansion if you know what's good.

Universal Orlando Resort

Close to Downtown Orlando and just as packed as Disney, but the ride technology here is legitimately a few years ahead. Harry Potter land lives up to the hype, and the new Twisters ride is worth your time. Pro tip: if you're a guest staying at our lakefront property, you're only 20 minutes away, which means you can hit the parks early and leave before crowds peak.

SeaWorld Orlando

If you've got kids or just like rides mixed with marine life viewing, it's a solid full day. The ride quality has improved significantly over the past few years. It's the quietest of the major parks, so if you want a break from the crowds at Disney or Universal, this is your play.

Local Nature & The Waterfront

Lake Holden Scenic Trail

You don't need to travel anywhere for this one. The trail loops around the lake and gives you a genuine feel for why we chose to build here. It's short, quiet, and offers views you won't get anywhere else in Orlando. Take it early in the morning when the light is good and the park is empty.

Loch Haven Park

A few minutes north of the lake house, this park has museums, botanical gardens, and actual green space. The Orlando Science Center is solid, especially if you're traveling with kids. The gardens are genuinely well-maintained, and the whole area feels removed from the typical tourist corridor.

Blue Jacket Park

Another nearby option with trails and open water access. It's less crowded than the Orlando parks, which is exactly the point. Bring kayaks or just walk the trails. This is what Orlando looks like without the theme parks.

Eating & Drinking

SODO District

South of Downtown, this is where locals actually eat. Restaurants here aren't trying to be Instagram moments. Jagged Fork Gastropub does solid food without pretension. 4 Rivers Smokehouse is legitimately great barbecue. The whole district has that working Orlando feel that downtown lost years ago.

Milk District

A few blocks of vintage shops, small restaurants, and coffee spots. Graffiti Junktion does burgers that are worth seeking out. It's the kind of place you stumble into and find something you actually want to eat, rather than a curated list of what you should try. This is real neighborhood dining.

East End Market

The kind of place that should exist in every city. Local vendors, real food, a cafe upstairs. Go hungry and try things you've never heard of. The whole vibe is that someone actually cares about the quality of what they're selling, not just moving volume.

Downtown Orlando & Cultural Venues

Church Street District

Downtown has changed a lot in the past decade, and most of it is better. The church street area has restaurants, bars, and shops that actually reflect current Orlando. Walk the streets in the evening when people are out. There's an energy here that didn't exist ten years ago.

ICON Park

The Wheel is the most touristy thing on this list, and it's still worth doing once. The views from the top give you a real sense of how sprawled Orlando is. If you're staying at our lakefront property, you can see some of it from the water.

Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts

If you want an actual evening experience that isn't a theme park, check what's showing here. Orlando has legitimate theater, music, and performing arts. It's grown into a real cultural venue, not just a tourist checkbox.
